The mixtape is an art form that I was never acquainted with until recently and one that I’ve heard wonderful things about. There are mixtapes for every sort of occassion, and there’s even a following who devote themselves to the art, but most interesting to me were the countless romance stories.
Mixtapes have helped music lover overcome mediocre looks and awkward social graces, paving the way into the bedroom for many years. Or at least, into the hearts of their beloveds.
So, how do you get lucky with a Mixx?
For years now I've collected video game music. At first it was an idle habit of mine, but as I started to collect more I began to realize how incredible the music was (and still is). Many times you'll find a catchy tune from a game will in fact be a full song in much better quality, will have had a cover made in an entirely new style, or will have parts sampled to make entirely new music.
When we were creating Mixx, one of our biggest problems was the music library we could offer users. We explored partnering with music providers, but we knew the importance of sharing the exact version of a song, be it an original, cover, a sample, or remix. For Mixx, uploading was our only option.
With MP3 uploads as a must, we had to do something to make sure that we didn't turn into another P2P application, but what? And how could we make sure that we stayed within the realm of fair use?
